My name is Kei Takahashi. I am an upcoming senior, studying International Political Economics. On this blog, I would like to share my life in The Gambia, where I work as an intern this summer. Thank you for reading and I hope you will enjoy!
First, please let me tell you a story of how I got to The Gambia this summer.
I started my college in summer of 2020 at Juniata College, Huntingdon, PA. There are a lot of reasosn behind that decision, but one of the biggest reasons was a video on Youtube. It is a video about the Gambia trip that Juniata College offers every summer. Originally, I had a big interest in African culture and society before college. Thus, watching the video led me to come to Juniata.
However, the Gambia trip has not offered since the pandemic and it was unlikely to resume while I am in Juniata. I kept showing my interests for The Gambia to Professor Nagengast in such situation. Then he introduced Cinatrix Media to me, the company that created the video I watched before coming to Juniata.
Then, long story short, after two years in the US and one year in Sweden (I did an exchange program there this past academic year), I landed on African continent on June 3rd, 2023, to work as an intern at Cinatrix Media.
Cinatrix Media is a video production company, whose objective is to promote positive change and empowerment through the medium of film and video (https://cinatrixmedia.com/). It works with diverse businesses, associations/organizations, governmental agencies, and individuals. As a politics student, I thought it would be very interesting to see different work in Africa from a media side- and that is why I decided to do this internship.
Although I am not well-experienced in the field of filmmaking and video production, I wanted to get out of my comfort zone to explore the world and my possibility. Here on this blog, I am going to write and share my findings, feelings, and (maybe) struggles in a new environment. I hope you enjoy :)
